這是加拿大著名作家、詩人、歌手Leonard Cohen在1971年他第三張專輯中發表的曲子,從歌詞中,可以看出這是一齣三角戀情,內中有愛、有恨、有原諒。第一次聽到是Leonard Cohen以第一人稱在唱,第二次聽到是Jennifer Warnes在唱,原本主角是男性,但Jennifer唱的時候,主角卻轉換為女性,所以原歌詞的意思也會讓人有不同的想法。Jennifer Warnes唱時,保留絕大部分原來的歌詞,只是做了很小的變動。如果比較二者,Leonard Cohen所唱的聽起來好像已經事過境遷,心情已經放下了。而Jennifer Waners唱起來則還帶著哀怨,二者都值得欣賞。以下是Leonarn Cohen原唱的歌詞:

Jennifer Warnes這張「Famous Blue Raincoat」是1986年出版,當年她39歲(1947年生)。一位女歌手39歲才紅,不會太晚嗎?其實Jennifer Warnes早在1967年就出道,唱過鄉村歌曲、流行歌曲、電影主題曲,也在電視劇中露過臉,這些往事音響迷都不知道,直到她出版這張「Famous Blue Raincoat」開始,音響迷才知道有她這個人。老實說一個歌手如果有一張專輯大紅,而且版權能夠確保,這也夠了,由於這張唱片不斷以不同版本再版,Jennifer Warnes靠這張唱片的版權應該也有不少收入。最新的一次再版就是20週年紀念的24k金版,還有33轉的黑膠唱片版。以前就曾出版過黑膠唱片,不過那是45轉。

Leonard Cohen可說是Jennifer Warnes的貴人,她在1970年代就是Leonard Cohen演唱會時的合音歌手,因此二人相熟,也才會有這張全部都是Leonard Cohen作品的專輯。老實說,如果論錄音效果,有很多專輯都不輸給這張,但為何這張CD能夠一翻再翻呢?我認為重點就是這首「Famous Blue Raincoat」這首曲子的功勞。以前第一次聽到這首歌時,心臟簡直就是揪了起來,歌曲中沒有呼天搶地,但卻道盡男女之間的複雜糾葛,這就是人間世啊!Raincoat其實是我們老中說的風衣,也是老外冬天經常穿在身上,可以當做雨衣用的擋風擋雨衣服。從唱片封面中,也可看出Raincoat就是我們老中所說的「風衣」。不過,用藍雨衣還是比較貼近藍色的憂鬱感覺。

在這張專輯中,音響迷最不喜歡聽的可能是第一首「First We Take Manhattan」,因為內中的低頻Bass量感並不多,而小鼓卻非常響亮突出,這會讓硬調空間聽起來刺耳。有些音響迷一直要把這首曲子的低頻調得豐滿,其實那是錯的,原本的低頻根本沒那麼多。假若第一首曲子的低頻調得很足,往後幾首的低頻都過量了。雖然是1986年出版,當年已經進入CD時代,但這張專輯卻是類比錄音,現在新出版這張33轉黑膠就是用類比母帶去重刻的,刻片師是大家都知道的Bernie Grundman。刻片品質很好,音質美,內聲部清晰,細微音樂細節都能浮現出來。
